Zero Waste x Refill Shop Lead

Our business is currently looking for a Zero Waste x Refill Shop Lead to be an integral part of our growing store. You will be responsible for knowing our products, providing customer service, completing sales transactions, merchandising, restocking, and helping to maintain a clean and sanitary shopping experience for our customers.

Who are we:

Dogwood Refillery is a local woman-owned and operated small business in Charlottesville, VA that opened August 2021 with a goal to inspire people to live more eco-consciously. We do this by educating customers on a more sustainable lifestyle and curating non-toxic refills and low-waste swaps, to make their journey easier.

By connecting with our community through knowledge sharing, our everyday work and also by partnering with other local change makers, groups and small businesses around the city and surrounding counties we support the growth of a more vibrant, waste conscious community for us all.

As a refillery, our store encourages customers to bring their own containers and can take as much or as little of each product as they wish. We exclusively partner with sustainable and small businesses, minimizing our plastic waste and carbon footprint whenever possible.

Job Details:

Part-time, up to 25 hours/week. Competitive pay (wage based on availability & experience) + store discounts + working for a mission-based business with a fun environment.

This job will provide excellent experience in sustainability, community building, leadership and customer service, so specific work experience is much less important than finding someone with excellent work ethic and a passion for our values!

Qualifications:

  • Strong organizational skills and follow through on work-plans.
  • Excellent communication, literacy, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs (jugs, containers, bags).
  • Ability to multitask and work well under pressure.
  • Flexible, driven, motivated, and a team player.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work with cash, point-of-sale system.
  • Knowledge and comfort utilizing basic computer programs (Word, Google Drive etc).

Job Role/Expectations:

Customer Service/Storefront Operations:

  • Front & cashier responsibilities, ability to perform basic math + calculations.
  • Online order preparation, pick-up coordination and communication with customers,
  • Provide excellent customer service, addressing the needs and requests of customers in a timely and effective manner.
  • Phone duties; checking messages, communicating with distributors and collaborators.
  • Help customers find and understand products.
  • Support product research and sourcing that align with our values.
  • Understand & uphold company mission & values.
  • Manage the POS, tare scale, and cash/credit/debit procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.

Stock & Cleaning Operations:

  • Opening and closing duties; following established and 'on the fly' task requirements as needed.
  • Assist with in house product deliveries including carrying, safe storage, organization, labeling and rotation of bulk products.
  • Backroom and inventory management and organization.
  • In-store restocking, replenishing, and managing a variety of specialty bulk products.
  • Wash, rinse, sanitize and prepare containers, and utensils.

In-Store & Community Support

  • Work with and report to Owner as required to support development and implementation of business strategy ideas.
  • Work with all team members in-store to support day-to-day retail operations.
  • Represent Dogwood Refillery with pride when working with other local business owners and makers to offer collaboration support in-store.
  • Assist with related day-to-day tasks as needed from other team members.
  • Support ongoing outreach activities to grow the sustainability movement in our community.
  • Support educational needs for team/customers.
  • Other duties as required with flexibility to support a small growing business.
